E’ ufficiale, Chris “Macca” McCormack, vincitore di due mondiali Ironman alle Hawaii, non difenderà ad ottobre il titolo conquistato nel 2010.
Il 38enne australiano ha infatti deciso di dedicarsi anima e corpo alla conquista di un posto per le Olimpiadi di Londra 2012, l’ultima occasione per Macca di regalare all’Australia una medaglia olimpica.
Tramite la sua pagina twitter @MaccaNow, l’iridato (che ha vinto un titolo mondiale anche nel corto, nel 1997 a Perth) ha dichiarato: “News is out. Have a meeting w/ the Australian High Performance Team on Sat. I am aware this is a big move, but u only live once!”
(La news ormai è uscita, sabato avrò un incontro con l’ Australian High Performance Team. Mi rendo conto che questa è una grande mossa, ma si vive una volta sola!)
Nell’intervista rilasciata al Dayly Telegraph, che potete trovare qui, Macca, che sta per diventare padre per la terza volta, ha inoltre aggiunto: “It the one thing in my career I regret, not making an Olympics. This is my last shot. The door swings shut after this. I don’t know if I am fast enough anymore to win, but I’d love to be there to help an Australian win a medal.”
