La Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) ha pubblicato la classifica finale del 2022, decretando vincitori del PTO Rankings 2022 la tedesca Anne Haug e il norvegese Kristian Blummenfelt (nella foto d’apertura in azione, vittoriosi, alla Collins Cup).
I due trionfatori della stagione appena conclusa si portano a casa entrambi 100.000 dollari, sul podio con loro salgono anche al 2° posto Daniela Ryf (SUI) e Gustav Iden (NOR, vincitore del rank 2021 insieme a Lucy Charles-Barclay), e al 3° Ashleigh Gentle (AUS) e Magnus Ditlev (DEN).
Il montepremi totale assegnato è stato di 2 milioni di dollari, sono stati premiati i primi 20 atleti (ai ventesimi sono andati 10.000 euro), per quanto riguarda gli italiani, nei 100 troviamo Marta Bernardi (64^), Giorgia Priarone (66^), Elisabetta Curridori (85^), Gregory Barnaby (36°) e Mattia Ceccarelli (98°), di seguito la classifica completa.

L’inarrestabile Blu
Dopo la vittoria delle Olimpiadi e del Mondiale nel 2021, la passata stagione ha visto Kristian Blummenfelt protagonista in particolare nel long distance: oro all’Ironman World Championship di St. George, oro all’Ironman 70.3 World Championship (sempre a St. George), trionfatore alla Collins Cup, recordman al “Sub7 Project“, “solo” terzo ai Mondiali Ironman di Kona.
Ma di certo Blu non si è risparmiato nelle distanze corte, gareggiando in Coppamondo nella sua Bergen (2°) e partecipando anche alla WTCS Bermuda (6°) e alla Grand Final di Abu Dhabi (8°).

La consistenza di Anne
La miglior prestazione della quarantenne tedesca Haug nel 2022 è stata senz’altro la splendida vittoria ottenuta al Challenge Roth in luglio, a cui sommare un altro importantissimo podio conquistato all’Ironman World Championship e la vittoria del suo Team Europe alla Collins Cup di Samorin.
«I’m really overwhelmed to be on top of the PTO World Rankings after the challenging Covid years. Although I didn’t have the one outstanding race I would have wished for, I was able to be very consistent in my performance throughout the season, thanks to my amazing team behind me. They kept me fit and healthy. This year we saw some absolutely outstanding performances, for example Daniela [Ryf] at the Ironman Worlds in Utah, Chelsea in Kona or Taylor [Knibb] at the 70.3 Worlds. That inspires me, shows how fantastic our sport is and that if you don’t go up a level each year, you’ll fall behind. The new PTO Open races give us a unique opportunity to race the best athletes from all distances, which improves the quality of every race and adds the spice everyone needs to perform. The team format of the Collins Cup has also pushed racing to a new level, strengthening camaraderie, team spirit, fair play and tactics.»

Novità in vista
Anche per il 2023 è stato confermato il montepremi di 2 milioni di dollari per i più performanti del “Race For The Rankings”, peraltro PTO ha annunciato che d’accordo con il comitato atleti per la nuova stagione appronterà degli aggiornamenti al regolamento per l’assegnazione dei punteggi del PTO World Rankings e il tutto sarà annunciato nelle prossime settimane.
